They called on each other in the morning.
فَتَنادَوا مُصبِحينَ
fatanaadaw musbiheen
“Let us harvest the crop.”
أَنِ اغدوا عَلىٰ حَرثِكُم إِن كُنتُم صٰرِمينَ
anighdoo ‘alaa harsikum in kuntum saarimeen
On their way, they confided to each other.
فَانطَلَقوا وَهُم يَتَخٰفَتونَ
fantalaqoo wa hum yatakhaafatoon
That from then on, none of them would be poor.
أَن لا يَدخُلَنَّهَا اليَومَ عَلَيكُم مِسكينٌ
al laa yadkhulannahal yawma ‘alaikum miskeen
They were so absolutely sure of their harvest.
وَغَدَوا عَلىٰ حَردٍ قٰدِرينَ
wa ghadaw ‘alaa hardin qaadireen
But when they saw it, they said, “We were so wrong!
فَلَمّا رَأَوها قالوا إِنّا لَضالّونَ
falammaa ra awhaa qaalooo innaa ladaaalloon
The righteous among them said, “If only you had glorified (God)!”
قالَ أَوسَطُهُم أَلَم أَقُل لَكُم لَولا تُسَبِّحونَ
qaala awsatuhum alam aqul lakum law laa tusabbihoon
They said, “Glory be to our Lord. We have transgressed.”
قالوا سُبحٰنَ رَبِّنا إِنّا كُنّا ظٰلِمينَ
qaaloo subhaana rabbinaaa innaa kunnaa zaalimeen
They started to blame each other.
فَأَقبَلَ بَعضُهُم عَلىٰ بَعضٍ يَتَلٰوَمونَ
fa aqbala ba’duhum ‘alaa ba’diny yatalaawamoon
