“We justly incurred our Lord’s judgment; now we have to suffer.
فَحَقَّ عَلَينا قَولُ رَبِّنا إِنّا لَذائِقونَ
fahaqqa ‘alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa’iqoon
“We justly incurred our Lord’s judgment; now we have to suffer.
فَحَقَّ عَلَينا قَولُ رَبِّنا إِنّا لَذائِقونَ
fahaqqa ‘alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa’iqoon
“We misled you, only because we were astray.”
فَأَغوَينٰكُم إِنّا كُنّا غٰوينَ
fa aghwainaakum innaa kunnaa ghaaween
Thus, together they will all partake of the retribution on that day.
فَإِنَّهُم يَومَئِذٍ فِى العَذابِ مُشتَرِكونَ
fa innahum Yawma’izin fil’azaabi mushtarikoon
This is how we requite the guilty.
إِنّا كَذٰلِكَ نَفعَلُ بِالمُجرِمينَ
innaa kazaalika naf’alu bil mujrimeen
(The First Commandment)
When they were told, “Lã Elãha Ella Allãh [There is no other god beside God],” they turned arrogant.
إِنَّهُم كانوا إِذا قيلَ لَهُم لا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَستَكبِرونَ
innahum kaanooo izaa qeela lahum laaa ilaaha illal laahu yastakbiroon
They said, “Shall we leave our gods for the sake of a crazy poet?”
وَيَقولونَ أَئِنّا لَتارِكوا ءالِهَتِنا لِشاعِرٍ مَجنونٍ
wa yaqooloona a’innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa’irim majnoon
In fact, he has brought the truth, and has confirmed the messengers.
بَل جاءَ بِالحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ المُرسَلينَ
bal jaaa’a bilhaqqi wa saddaqal mursaleen
Most assuredly, you will taste the most painful retribution.
إِنَّكُم لَذائِقُوا العَذابِ الأَليمِ
innakum lazaaa’iqul ‘azaabil aleem
You are requited only for what you have done.
وَما تُجزَونَ إِلّا ما كُنتُم تَعمَلونَ
wa maa tujzawna illaa maa kuntum ta’maloon
Only God’s servants who are absolutely devoted to Him alone (will be saved).
إِلّا عِبادَ اللَّهِ المُخلَصينَ
illaa ‘ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
