Quran chapter: Chapter 20: T.H. (Ta Ha)

He said, “Did you believe in him without my permission? He must be your chief; the one who taught you magic. I will surely sever your hands and feet on alternate sides. I will crucify you on the palm trunks. You will find out which of us can inflict the worst retribution, and who outlasts whom.”

قالَ ءامَنتُم لَهُ قَبلَ أَن ءاذَنَ لَكُم إِنَّهُ لَكَبيرُكُمُ الَّذى عَلَّمَكُمُ السِّحرَ فَلَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيدِيَكُم وَأَرجُلَكُم مِن خِلٰفٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُم فى جُذوعِ النَّخلِ وَلَتَعلَمُنَّ أَيُّنا أَشَدُّ عَذابًا وَأَبقىٰ

qaala aamantum lahoo qabla an aazana lakum; innahoo lakabeerukumul lazee ‘allama kumus sihra fala uqatti’anna aidiyakum wa arjulakum min khilaafinw wa la usallibannakum fee juzoo’in nakhli wa lata’lamunna aiyunaaa ashaddu ‘azaabanw wa abqaa

They said, “We will not prefer you over the clear proofs that came to us, and over the One who created us. Therefore, issue whatever judgment you wish to issue. You can only rule in this lowly life.

قالوا لَن نُؤثِرَكَ عَلىٰ ما جاءَنا مِنَ البَيِّنٰتِ وَالَّذى فَطَرَنا فَاقضِ ما أَنتَ قاضٍ إِنَّما تَقضى هٰذِهِ الحَيوٰةَ الدُّنيا

qaaloo lan nu’siraka ‘alaa maa jaaa’anaa minal baiyinaati wallazee fataranaa faqdimaaa anta qaad; innamaa taqdee haazihil hayaatad dunyaa

“We have believed in our Lord, that He may forgive us our sins, and the magic that you forced us to perform. God is far better and Everlasting.”

إِنّا ءامَنّا بِرَبِّنا لِيَغفِرَ لَنا خَطٰيٰنا وَما أَكرَهتَنا عَلَيهِ مِنَ السِّحرِ وَاللَّهُ خَيرٌ وَأَبقىٰ

innaaa aamannaa bi Rabbinaa liyaghfira lanaa khataayaanaa wa maaa akrahtanaa ‘alaihi minas sihr; wallaahu khairunw wa abqaa

Anyone who comes to his Lord guilty will incur Hell, wherein he never dies, nor stays alive.

إِنَّهُ مَن يَأتِ رَبَّهُ مُجرِمًا فَإِنَّ لَهُ جَهَنَّمَ لا يَموتُ فيها وَلا يَحيىٰ

innahoo mai ya’ti Rabbahoo mujriman fa inna lahoo Jahannama laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa

As for those who come to Him as believers who had led a righteous life, they attain the high ranks.

وَمَن يَأتِهِ مُؤمِنًا قَد عَمِلَ الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَأُولٰئِكَ لَهُمُ الدَّرَجٰتُ العُلىٰ

wa mai ya’tihee mu’minan qad ‘amilas saalihaati fa ulaaa’ika lahumud darajaatul ‘ulaa

The gardens of Eden, beneath which rivers flow, will be their abode forever. Such is the reward for those who purify themselves.

جَنّٰتُ عَدنٍ تَجرى مِن تَحتِهَا الأَنهٰرُ خٰلِدينَ فيها وَذٰلِكَ جَزاءُ مَن تَزَكّىٰ

jannaatu ‘Adnin tajree min tahtihal anhaaru khaalideena feehaa; wa zaalika jazaaa’u man tazakka

We inspired Moses: “Lead My servants out, and strike for them a dry road across the sea. You shall not fear that you may get caught, nor shall you worry.”

وَلَقَد أَوحَينا إِلىٰ موسىٰ أَن أَسرِ بِعِبادى فَاضرِب لَهُم طَريقًا فِى البَحرِ يَبَسًا لا تَخٰفُ دَرَكًا وَلا تَخشىٰ

wa laqad awhainaaa ilaa Moosaaa an asri bi’ibaadee fadrib lahum tareeqan fil bahri yabasal laa takhaafu darakanw wa laa takhshaa

Pharaoh pursued them with his troops, but the sea overwhelmed them, as it was destined to overwhelm them.

فَأَتبَعَهُم فِرعَونُ بِجُنودِهِ فَغَشِيَهُم مِنَ اليَمِّ ما غَشِيَهُم

fa atba’ahum Fir’awnu bijunoodihee faghashiyahum minal yammmi maa ghashi yahum

Thus, Pharaoh misled his people; he did not guide them.

وَأَضَلَّ فِرعَونُ قَومَهُ وَما هَدىٰ

wa adalla fir’awnu qawmahoo wa maa hadaa

O Children of Israel, we delivered you from your enemy, summoned you to the right side of Mount Sinai, and we sent down to you manna and quails.

يٰبَنى إِسرٰءيلَ قَد أَنجَينٰكُم مِن عَدُوِّكُم وَوٰعَدنٰكُم جانِبَ الطّورِ الأَيمَنَ وَنَزَّلنا عَلَيكُمُ المَنَّ وَالسَّلوىٰ

yaa Baneee Israaa’eela qad anjainaakum min ‘aduw wikum wa wa’adnaakum jaanibat Tooril aimana wa nazzalnaa ‘alaikumul Manna was Salwaa
