Moses said to them, “Woe to you. Do you fabricate lies to fight God and thus incur His retribution? Such fabricators will surely fail.”
قالَ لَهُم موسىٰ وَيلَكُم لا تَفتَروا عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا فَيُسحِتَكُم بِعَذابٍ وَقَد خابَ مَنِ افتَرىٰ
qaala lahum Moosaa wailakum laa taftaroo ‘alal laahi kaziban fa yus hitakum bi ‘azaab, wa qad khaaba manif taraa
They disputed among themselves, as they conferred privately.
فَتَنٰزَعوا أَمرَهُم بَينَهُم وَأَسَرُّوا النَّجوىٰ
fatanaaza’ooo amrahum bainahum wa asarrun najwaa
They said, “These two are no more than magicians who wish to take you out of your land with their magic, and to destroy your ideal way of life.
قالوا إِن هٰذٰنِ لَسٰحِرٰنِ يُريدانِ أَن يُخرِجاكُم مِن أَرضِكُم بِسِحرِهِما وَيَذهَبا بِطَريقَتِكُمُ المُثلىٰ
qaalooo in haaazaani lasaahiraani yureedaani ai yukhrijaakum min ardikum bisihrihimaa wa yazhabaa bitareeqatikumul muslaa
“Let us agree upon one scheme and face them as a united front. The winner today will have the upper hand.”
فَأَجمِعوا كَيدَكُم ثُمَّ ائتوا صَفًّا وَقَد أَفلَحَ اليَومَ مَنِ استَعلىٰ
fa ajmi’oo kaidakum summma’too saffaa; wa qad aflahal yawma manis ta’laa
They said, “O Moses, either you throw, or we will be the first to throw.”
قالوا يٰموسىٰ إِمّا أَن تُلقِىَ وَإِمّا أَن نَكونَ أَوَّلَ مَن أَلقىٰ
qaaloo yaa Moosaaa immaaa an tulqiya wa immaaa an nakoona awala man alqaa
He said, “You throw.” Whereupon, their ropes and sticks appeared to him, because of their magic, as if they were moving.
قالَ بَل أَلقوا فَإِذا حِبالُهُم وَعِصِيُّهُم يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيهِ مِن سِحرِهِم أَنَّها تَسعىٰ
qaala bal alqoo fa izaa hibaaluhum wa ‘isiyyuhum yukhaiyalu ilaihi min sihrihim annahaa tas’aa
Moses harbored some fear.
فَأَوجَسَ فى نَفسِهِ خيفَةً موسىٰ
fa awjasa fee nafsihee kheefatam Moosa
We said, “Have no fear. You will prevail.
قُلنا لا تَخَف إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الأَعلىٰ
qulnaa laa takhaf innaka antal a’laa
“Throw what you hold in your right hand, and it will swallow what they fabricated. What they fabricated is no more than the scheming of a magician. The magician’s work will not succeed.”
وَأَلقِ ما فى يَمينِكَ تَلقَف ما صَنَعوا إِنَّما صَنَعوا كَيدُ سٰحِرٍ وَلا يُفلِحُ السّاحِرُ حَيثُ أَتىٰ
wa alqi maa fee yamee nika talqaf maa sana’oo; innamaa sana’oo kaidu saahir; wa laa yuflihus saahiru haisu ataa
(The Experts Recognize The Truth)
The magicians fell prostrate, saying, “We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.”
فَأُلقِىَ السَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًا قالوا ءامَنّا بِرَبِّ هٰرونَ وَموسىٰ
fa ulqiyas saharatu sujjadan qaalooo aamannaa bi Rabbi Haaroona wa Moosa
