(Intoxicants and Gambling Prohibited*)
They ask you about intoxicants and gambling: say, “In them there is a gross sin, and some benefits for the people. But their sinfulness far outweighs their benefit.” They also ask you what to give to charity: say, “The excess.” God thus clarifies the revelations for you, that you may reflect,
يَسـَٔلونَكَ عَنِ الخَمرِ وَالمَيسِرِ قُل فيهِما إِثمٌ كَبيرٌ وَمَنٰفِعُ لِلنّاسِ وَإِثمُهُما أَكبَرُ مِن نَفعِهِما وَيَسـَٔلونَكَ ماذا يُنفِقونَ قُلِ العَفوَ كَذٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الـٔايٰتِ لَعَلَّكُم تَتَفَكَّرونَ
yas’aloonaka ‘anilkhamri walmaisiri qul feehimaaa ismun kabeerunw wa manaafi’u linnaasi wa ismuhumaa akbaru min naf’ihimaa; wa yas’aloonaka maaza yunfiqoona qulil-‘afwa; kazaalika yubaiyinul laahu lakumul-aayaati la’allakum tatafakkaroon
