Quran chapter: Chapter 96: The Embryo (Al-`Alaq)

Is it not better for him to follow the guidance?

أَرَءَيتَ إِن كانَ عَلَى الهُدىٰ

ara-aita in kana ‘alal hudaa

Or advocate righteousness?

أَو أَمَرَ بِالتَّقوىٰ

au amara bit taqwaa

If he disbelieves and turns away.

أَرَءَيتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّىٰ

Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla

Does he not realize that God sees?

أَلَم يَعلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرىٰ

alam y’alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa

Indeed, unless he refrains, we will take him by the forelock.

كَلّا لَئِن لَم يَنتَهِ لَنَسفَعًا بِالنّاصِيَةِ

kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa’am bin nasiyah

A forelock that is disbelieving and sinful.

ناصِيَةٍ كٰذِبَةٍ خاطِئَةٍ

nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiah

Let him then call on his helpers.

فَليَدعُ نادِيَهُ

fal yad’u naadiyah

We will call the guardians of Hell.

سَنَدعُ الزَّبانِيَةَ

sanad ‘uz zabaaniyah

You shall not obey him; you shall fall prostrate and draw nearer.

كَلّا لا تُطِعهُ وَاسجُد وَاقتَرِب

kalla; la tuti’hu wasjud waqtarib
