Quran chapter: Chapter 63: The Hypocrites (Al-Munaafeqoon)

When the hypocrites come to you they say, “We bear witness that you are the messenger of God.”* God knows that you are His messenger, and God bears witness that the hypocrites are liars.

إِذا جاءَكَ المُنٰفِقونَ قالوا نَشهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسولُ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ يَعلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسولُهُ وَاللَّهُ يَشهَدُ إِنَّ المُنٰفِقينَ لَكٰذِبونَ

izaa jaaa’akal munaafiqoona qaaloo nashhadu innaka la rasoolul laah; wallaahu ya’lamu innaka la rasooluhoo wallaahu yashhadu innal munaafiqeena lakaaziboon

*63:1 The “first pillar of Islam,” as stated in 3:18 is to bear witness that God is the only god. But the corrupted “Muslim” scholars add “Muhammad is God’s messenger,” and this violates a number of commandments (see 2:285). Verse 63:1 is the only place in the Quran where such a statement is made. Only the hypocrites make such a statement.

Under the guise of their apparent faith, they repel the people from the path of God. Miserable indeed is what they do.

اتَّخَذوا أَيمٰنَهُم جُنَّةً فَصَدّوا عَن سَبيلِ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُم ساءَ ما كانوا يَعمَلونَ

ittakhazoo aymaanahum junnatan fasaddoo ‘an sabeelil laah; innahum saaa’a maa kaanoo ya’maloon

This is because they believed, then disbelieved. Hence, their minds are blocked; they do not understand.

ذٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُم ءامَنوا ثُمَّ كَفَروا فَطُبِعَ عَلىٰ قُلوبِهِم فَهُم لا يَفقَهونَ

zaalika bi annahum aamanoo summa kafaroo fatubi’a ‘alaa quloobihim fahum laa yafqahoon

(A Chip On Their Shoulders)

When you see them, you may be impressed by their looks. And when they speak, you may listen to their eloquence. They are like standing logs. They think that every call is intended against them. These are the real enemies; beware of them. God condemns them; they have deviated.

وَإِذا رَأَيتَهُم تُعجِبُكَ أَجسامُهُم وَإِن يَقولوا تَسمَع لِقَولِهِم كَأَنَّهُم خُشُبٌ مُسَنَّدَةٌ يَحسَبونَ كُلَّ صَيحَةٍ عَلَيهِم هُمُ العَدُوُّ فَاحذَرهُم قٰتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَنّىٰ يُؤفَكونَ

wa izaa ra aytahum tu’jibuka ajsaamuhum wa iny yaqooloo tasma’ liqawlihim ka’annahum khushubum musannadah; yahsaboona kulla saihatin ‘alaihim; humul ‘aduwwu fahzarhum; qaatalahumul laahu annaa yu’fakoon

When they are told, “Come let the messenger of God pray for your forgiveness,” they mockingly turn their heads, and you see them repel others and act arrogantly.

وَإِذا قيلَ لَهُم تَعالَوا يَستَغفِر لَكُم رَسولُ اللَّهِ لَوَّوا رُءوسَهُم وَرَأَيتَهُم يَصُدّونَ وَهُم مُستَكبِرونَ

wa izaa qeela lahum ta’aalaw yastaghfir lakum rasoolul laahi lawwaw ru’oo sahum wa ra aytahum yasuddoona wa hum mustakbiroon

(The Myth of Intercession Shattered*)

It is the same for them, whether you pray for their forgiveness, or not pray for their forgiveness; God will not forgive them. For God does not guide the wicked people.

سَواءٌ عَلَيهِم أَستَغفَرتَ لَهُم أَم لَم تَستَغفِر لَهُم لَن يَغفِرَ اللَّهُ لَهُم إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَهدِى القَومَ الفٰسِقينَ

sawaaa’un ‘alaihim as taghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lany yaghfiral laahu lahum; innal laaha laa yahdil qawmal faasiqeen

*63:6 Millions of people idolize their prophets because of this myth (Appendix 8).

They are the ones who say, “Do not give any money to those who followed the messenger of God, perhaps they abandon him!” However, God possesses the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not comprehend.

هُمُ الَّذينَ يَقولونَ لا تُنفِقوا عَلىٰ مَن عِندَ رَسولِ اللَّهِ حَتّىٰ يَنفَضّوا وَلِلَّهِ خَزائِنُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالأَرضِ وَلٰكِنَّ المُنٰفِقينَ لا يَفقَهونَ

humul lazeena yaqooloona laa tunfiqoo ‘alaa man inda Rasoolil laahi hatta yanfaddoo; wa lillaahi khazaaa’ inus samaawaati wal ardi wa laakinnal munaafiqeena la yafqahoon

They say, “If we go back to the city, the powerful therein will evict the weak (and we will be victimized).” (They should know that) all dignity belongs to God and His messenger, and the believers. However, the hypocrites do not know.

يَقولونَ لَئِن رَجَعنا إِلَى المَدينَةِ لَيُخرِجَنَّ الأَعَزُّ مِنهَا الأَذَلَّ وَلِلَّهِ العِزَّةُ وَلِرَسولِهِ وَلِلمُؤمِنينَ وَلٰكِنَّ المُنٰفِقينَ لا يَعلَمونَ

yaqooloona la’ir raja’naaa ilal madeenati la yukhrijannal a’azzu minhal azall; wa lillaahil ‘izzatu wa li Rasoolihee wa lilmu’mineena wa laakinnal munaafiqeena laa ya’lamoon

O you who believe, do not be distracted by your money and your children from remembering God. Those who do this are the losers.

يٰأَيُّهَا الَّذينَ ءامَنوا لا تُلهِكُم أَموٰلُكُم وَلا أَولٰدُكُم عَن ذِكرِ اللَّهِ وَمَن يَفعَل ذٰلِكَ فَأُولٰئِكَ هُمُ الخٰسِرونَ

yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo la tulhikum amwaalukum wa laa awlaadukum ‘anzikril laah; wa mai-yaf’al zaalika fa-ulaaa’ika humul khaasiroon

You shall give from our provisions to you before death comes to you, then you say, “My Lord, if only You could delay this for a short while! I would then be charitable and join the righteous!”

وَأَنفِقوا مِن ما رَزَقنٰكُم مِن قَبلِ أَن يَأتِىَ أَحَدَكُمُ المَوتُ فَيَقولَ رَبِّ لَولا أَخَّرتَنى إِلىٰ أَجَلٍ قَريبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِنَ الصّٰلِحينَ

wa anfiqoo mim maa razaqnaakum min qabli any-ya’tiya ahadakumul mawtu fa yaqoola rabbi law laaa akhkhartaneee ilaaa ajalin qareebin fa assaddaqa wa akum minassaaliheen
