Note how we preferred some people above others (in this life). The differences in the Hereafter are far greater and far more significant.
انظُر كَيفَ فَضَّلنا بَعضَهُم عَلىٰ بَعضٍ وَلَلـٔاخِرَةُ أَكبَرُ دَرَجٰتٍ وَأَكبَرُ تَفضيلًا
unzur kaifa faddalnaa ba’dahum ‘alaa ba’d; wa lal Aakhiratu akbaru darajaatinw wa akbaru tafdeelaa
(Major Commandments)
You shall not set up any other god beside God, lest you end up despised and disgraced.
لا تَجعَل مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلٰهًا ءاخَرَ فَتَقعُدَ مَذمومًا مَخذولًا
laa taj’al ma’al laahi ilaahan aakhara fataq’uda mazoomam makhzoolaa
Your Lord has decreed that you shall not worship except Him, and your parents shall be honored. As long as one or both of them live, you shall never say to them, “Uff” (the slightest gesture of annoyance), nor shall you shout at them; you shall treat them amicably.
وَقَضىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلّا تَعبُدوا إِلّا إِيّاهُ وَبِالوٰلِدَينِ إِحسٰنًا إِمّا يَبلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ الكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُما أَو كِلاهُما فَلا تَقُل لَهُما أُفٍّ وَلا تَنهَرهُما وَقُل لَهُما قَولًا كَريمًا
wa qadaa Rabbuka allaa ta’budooo illaaa iyyaahu wa bilwaalidaini ihsaanaa; immaa yablughanna ‘indakal kibara ahaduhumaaa aw kilaahumaa falaa taqul lahumaaa uffinw wa laa tanharhumaa wa qullahumaa qawlan kareemaa
And lower for them the wings of humility, and kindness, and say, “My Lord, have mercy on them, for they have raised me from infancy.”
وَاخفِض لَهُما جَناحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحمَةِ وَقُل رَبِّ ارحَمهُما كَما رَبَّيانى صَغيرًا
wakhfid lahumaa janaahaz zulli minar rahmati wa qur Rabbir hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheera
Your Lord is fully aware of your innermost thoughts. If you maintain righteousness, He is Forgiver of those who repent.
رَبُّكُم أَعلَمُ بِما فى نُفوسِكُم إِن تَكونوا صٰلِحينَ فَإِنَّهُ كانَ لِلأَوّٰبينَ غَفورًا
rabbukum a’lamu bimaa fee nufoosikum; in takoonoo saaliheena fa innahoo kaana lil awwaabeena Ghafoooraa
You shall give the due alms to the relatives, the needy, the poor, and the traveling alien, but do not be excessive, extravagant.
وَءاتِ ذَا القُربىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالمِسكينَ وَابنَ السَّبيلِ وَلا تُبَذِّر تَبذيرًا
wa aati zal qurbaa haqqahoo walmiskeena wabnas sabeeli wa laa tubazzir tabzeeraa
The extravagant are brethren of the devils, and the devil is unappreciative of his Lord.
إِنَّ المُبَذِّرينَ كانوا إِخوٰنَ الشَّيٰطينِ وَكانَ الشَّيطٰنُ لِرَبِّهِ كَفورًا
innal mubazzireena kaanoo ikhwaanash shayaateeni wa kaanash shaytaanu li Rabbihee kafooraa
Even if you have to turn away from them, as you pursue the mercy of your Lord, you shall treat them in the nicest manner.
وَإِمّا تُعرِضَنَّ عَنهُمُ ابتِغاءَ رَحمَةٍ مِن رَبِّكَ تَرجوها فَقُل لَهُم قَولًا مَيسورًا
wa immaa tu’ridanna ‘anhum ubtighaaa’a rahmatim mir rabbika tarjoohaa faqul lahum qawlam maisooraa
(Stinginess Condemned)
You shall not keep your hand stingily tied to your neck, nor shall you foolishly open it up, lest you end up blamed and sorry.
وَلا تَجعَل يَدَكَ مَغلولَةً إِلىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلا تَبسُطها كُلَّ البَسطِ فَتَقعُدَ مَلومًا مَحسورًا
wa laa taj’al yadaka maghloolatan ilaa ‘unuqika wa laa tabsut haa kullal basti fataq’uda maloomam mahsooraa
For your Lord increases the provision for anyone He chooses, and reduces it. He is fully Cognizant of His creatures, Seer.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبسُطُ الرِّزقَ لِمَن يَشاءُ وَيَقدِرُ إِنَّهُ كانَ بِعِبادِهِ خَبيرًا بَصيرًا
inna Rabbaka yabsuturrizqa limai yashaaa’u wa yaqdir; innahoo kaana bi’ibaadihee Khabeeran Baseera
